The Cameracronica project.
Propagation and promotion of the international cultures of architectural design

May 03, 2013

Cameracronica is an exhibition space opened at Melfi’s City Museum in via Rispoli (Palazzo Donadoni) in 2012. Its mission is the propagation of the in- ternational cultures and theories of architectural, urban, and landscape de- sign in central-southern Italy. Cameracronica, whose definition is inspired to the aesthetic culture of German Wunderkammers, the seventeenth cen- tury’s “cabinets of curiosities” where the concept of museum display had still to reach its full chronological and thematic meaning, is indeed a “timeless” space, a place where the knowledge of higher architectural thought of vari- ous times is shared. Cameracronica will offer descriptions and narrations of design experiences from both western and non-western geographical cul- tures. Cameracronica opens with an exhibition of sixteen houses project by Chilean duo Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen based in Con- cepción. Sixteen rooms for sixteen projects. “Rooms” that will show up in the eyes of visitors though a magic and a simple childlike dimension. We were suddenly attracted by the idea of amazing installation that was in perfect harmony with the basic idea of Cameracronica.

As a project Cameracronica results from the combination of the cul- tural activities that Libria publishing house and Vortex_A design workshop have developed for many years in the Basilicata region. Finally, a thanks to Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo, Nasrine Seraji and Martin Rein Cano who have placed one’s trust in this cultural project in progress, accepting to be part of the scientific committee of Cameracronica.
