Interview to Max Dudler

February 06, 2012

The crucial factor of design here is the use of simple, clearly legible elements: the individua parts are unambiguously developed typologically and utilized in such a way that the internal organization and the external appearance of a buiding are mutually conditional. Nothing is unfounded, nothing hidden. [...] Something similar might be said about the material. Only a few materials are combined with one another and these are used in a solely materially manner. The material of the architectonic body remains "pure", which means that it is not artificially treated to achieve a decorative effect. Instead, it should present itself with no false appearances, it skillfully crafted perfection as part of the whole. Stone, glass or steel facades are not an expression of an architectonic dogma here, but rather materials that result solely fro the location. After all, the materials used characterize not only the image of a building, but also its sensual presence in thee location. [...] Sparsity and seenity are what grounds the identity of the building and allow it to appear concrete and present in the structure of urban development.
